In Connecticut, a total of 56 adult-use marijuana licenses have been distributed after receiving more than 37,000 applications, including 23,487 for 28 social equity permits.

According to Michelle Bodian, a cannabis lawyer with Vicente Sederberg’s Boston and New York offices, “At the end of the day, it’s a high number of lottery balls submitted without a lot of licenses available.”

Dates for the lottery have not yet been disclosed.

The final application window closed on Wednesday night after several staggered windows.

According to state data, the applications and license availability are distributed as follows:

Retailer: 7,246 general applications and 8,360 equity applications. Each category will receive six licenses.

Retailer of adult products and hybrid medical products: 6,921 equity applications; 1,296 general applications. Each category will receive two licenses.

5,528 equity applications and 2,936 general applications were micro-cultivated. Each category will receive two licenses.

Manufacturers of food and beverages: 1,019 equity applications; 952 general applications. Each category will receive five licenses.

Production of goods: 425 general applications and 436 equity applications. Each category will receive three licenses.

944 equity applications and 262 general applications were delivered. Each category will receive five licenses.

167 equity applications and 325 general applications were transported. Each category will receive two licenses.

112 equity applications and 364 general applications were packaged. Each category will receive three licenses.

Separately, Connecticut has received 41 applications for contentious $3 million equity cultivation licenses.

The money isn’t payable until eligibility (and selection) have been confirmed, but 41 is still a sizable amount, according to Bodian.

The number of licenses the state may provide in that category is not constrained.
At its meeting on July 12, the Social Equity Council is expected to announce the larger equity cultivation permits, according to Bodian.
