With tens of thousands of signatures gathered in the last ten days, Nebraskans for Medical Cannabis announced this morning that the campaign is just about to secure entrance to the ballot in the November election.
In the last ten days, an amazing number of Nebraskans have participated and signed our petitions, according to state senator Anna Wishart. As of early Wednesday morning, we were roughly 87,000 signatures short of the necessary number.
Wishart claimed that in order to keep the initiative on the ballot, organizers need another 5,000 signatures.
Thursday at noon marks the formal end of the journey.
The campaign manager, Crista Eggers, stated that there were 30 hours left to complete this. Eggers is the mother of a seven-year-old boy who has epilepsy and experiences seizures.
The Patient Protection Act, which shields people with health issues and those who care for them from arrest for using medical cannabis as prescribed by a doctor, is one of the two petitions included.
The Medical Cannabis Regulation Act, which creates a commission to oversee private companies that offer medical cannabis to approved patients, is also a part of the petition.
