The 7 Possible Medical Uses of Cannabis

cannabis leaves benefits

Hemp, or cannabis, is a plant with a rich and complex history and a sometimes contentious reputation. Because of its many applications, cannabis has spread to numerous markets and product categories, most notably the medical one.

An Overview of Cannabis and Its Uses
While the complex science of cannabis is beyond the scope of this article, we will do our best to simplify the basics: Over one hundred and twenty chemicals, or cannabinoids, make up cannabis. The two cannabinoids that have received the most attention and study are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). You may be familiar with THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis, in the form of oils, gummies, drinks, and other products; CBD, on the other hand, is a non-intoxicating, non-euphoric component.

What health benefits can be expected from using CBD?
CBD’s rise to fame has undoubtedly spawned a whole new industry; at JWU, we even offer a Bachelor of Science in Cannabis Entrepreneurship*. While more study is needed to determine CBD’s full medical potential, preliminary findings are very encouraging. CBD has been shown to improve health in a variety of ways, and here are seven of them.

Getting your blood pressure down
In a 2017 study, JCI Insight found that CBD helped reduce blood pressure in humans. In addition to lowering their blood pressure during and after stress tests like mental arithmetic and isometric exercise, it also lowered their blood pressure at rest.

The second benefit is a decreased level of inflammation.
A study out of the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research found that CBD helped lessen inflammation and the neuropathic pain that comes along with it.

Relapse prevention for substance abuse
In 2018, researchers found that CBD can aid those struggling with substance abuse. CBD was found to be effective in reducing stress-induced cravings, anxiety, and lack of impulse control in a preclinical trial with lab rats.

Treatment for Anxiety Disorders
People have used CBD for a wide variety of ailments, but anxiety seems to be the most common. One study found that CBD showed promise in treating a variety of anxiety disorders, including GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, OCD, and PTSD.

  1. Remedying Digestive System Problems
CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids were found to be effective in preventing and treating gastrointestinal (GI) disorders like IBS, IBD, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and more in a recent study. Reduce and prevent symptoms with CBD’s anti-inflammatory benefits.

Seizure avoidance
CBD has been studied for its potential to alleviate the symptoms of epilepsy and other seizure disorders for decades, and a recent study confirmed these hopes.

Seventh, the fight against cancer
CBD has been used to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and has been shown in studies to have multiple anti-cancer effects, including the prevention of cancer, the treatment of tumours, and the enhancement of the immune system.

Furthermore, additional advantages beyond these seven are still being investigated and tested. We expect the students in our new Cannabis Entrepreneurship programmed to be instrumental in shaping the future of the industry.

I’m looking forward to the benefits of both CBD and THC in hopes it will increase my appetite and relax me. As I have stage 4 cancer and had both chemo and radiation. I know there’s no cure for cancer but if I’m going out, I’m going with a smile. Peace to you.
