To honor the expanding cannabis industry, this town in Colorado may decide to change its name to “Kush.”

The tiny Colorado town of Moffat has experienced a significant influence from the cannabis sector; in fact, the town is currently considering changing its name to “Kush.”

Moffat’s mayor, Cassandra Foxx, told CNN that there are about 120 people living there.

But she added that “Moffat feels like it’s on the cusp of huge expansion right now.” “We may be very small, but we’re striving to have a significant impact here.”

Mike Biggio, the proprietor and founder of Area 420, which grants property in Moffat for cannabis growth, proposed the name change. Cannabis, which Colorado legalized for recreational use in 2012, is referred to in slang as “kush.”

According to Foxx, Biggio’s enterprise has significantly impacted the local economy.

She claimed, “They kind of gave us life, like a rebirth.” “They gave Moffat a line of work.”

We have a lot of open space, good resources, a lovely elevation, and a climate that is conducive to marijuana cultivation, according to Foxx.

According to Foxx, the number of cannabis production licenses in Moffat has increased dramatically over the previous six years, going from two to over 70, mostly as a result of Area 420.

They put the name change on the agenda for a town hall on June 7 after Biggio recommended it during the open discussion phase at a meeting.

According to Foxx, “it seemed like practically the entire community came out to share their perspective.”

According to Foxx, not everyone in the community supported the potential name change. Some locals wished to preserve the name’s representation of the town’s “history, legacy, and identity.” The town’s original name honors David H. Moffat, an industrialist who made significant contributions to the growth of Colorado’s mines and railroads.

According to Foxx, the next step towards converting Moffat to Kush would be for a local to launch a petition.

We haven’t done anything yet; it’s just a debate right now, she remarked.

Foxx finds it “exciting” that the town’s name might change.

She remarked, “A little ridiculous, but that’s good. It’s the appropriate level of stupid. But it’s also correct in the sense that it gives a true picture of our area, the sector we’re trying to promote, and the heartbeat of our community.
