Federal legalization, according to the chair of Vermont’s Cannabis Control Board, is inescapable.
Currently, 37 states permit the use of medical marijuana, and the US House has repeatedly approved a “Safe Banking” measure. It offers federally chartered banks involved in the sector protections.
However, there aren’t any votes scheduled in the Senate for now, so officials predict that legalization won’t happen anytime soon.
According to James Pepper of the Cannabis Control Board, “as more and more states legalize, and they can do so through a ballot initiative, you know once we get that critical mass on the Senate side, then a lot of legislation that at one point seemed impossible I think actually will start to come through.”
On October 1st, Vermont is scheduled to legalize retail marijuana.
