Complete Indoor Cannabis Growing Guide 2026 – Seed to Harvest
Everything you need to know to grow cannabis indoors, from absolute zero to harvest day.
**PHASE 1: SETUP (Week 0)**
Equipment checklist:
- Grow tent (2x2 to 4x4 depending on plant count)
- LED grow light (Mars Hydro, Spider Farmer, or HLG)
- Exhaust fan + carbon filter (AC Infinity recommended)
- Fabric pots (3-5 gallon)
- Quality soil (Fox Farm Ocean Forest or living soil)
- pH meter + pH Up/Down solutions
- Nutrients (General Hydroponics Flora Trio for beginners)
- Timer for lights
- Thermometer/hygrometer
Total startup: $250-500 depending on tent size.
**PHASE 2: GERMINATION (Days 1-3)**
Paper towel method: soak seeds 12-18hrs, then between damp paper towels in a warm dark spot. Taproot appears in 24-72 hours. Plant taproot-down in moist soil, 1/2 inch deep.
**PHASE 3: SEEDLING (Days 3-14)**
- Light: 18/6 schedule, LED at 24+ inches
- Water: small amounts around the stem, don't soak the whole pot
- Temp: 72-78°F, Humidity: 65-70%
- No nutrients yet — soil has enough
**PHASE 4: VEGETATIVE (Weeks 2-6)**
- Light: 18/6 schedule, gradually lower LED
- Water: when top inch of soil is dry
- Nutrients: start at 1/4 strength, increase weekly
- Training: begin LST at node 4-5
- Temp: 72-80°F, Humidity: 55-65%
**PHASE 5: FLOWERING (Weeks 6-14)**
- Light: 12/12 for photoperiods (autos stay 18/6)
- Switch to bloom nutrients
- Watch for male parts (shouldn't happen with feminized seeds)
- Support heavy colas with stakes/nets
- Temp: 72-78°F, Humidity: 45-55%
**PHASE 6: HARVEST (Week 14+)**
- Check trichomes: harvest when mostly milky with some amber
- Cut plant, trim fan leaves
- Dry: 60-65°F, 55-65% humidity, 7-14 days
- Cure: glass jars, burp daily for 2 weeks, then weekly for 4+ weeks
**Seeds:** Start with autoflowers if this is your first grow. Northern Lights Auto and Zkittlez Auto from Royal King Seeds (https://royalkingseeds.us) are both excellent beginner choices.

Great guide! Would add: invest in a good exhaust fan with carbon filter from day 1. Once flowering starts, the smell gets INTENSE. Your whole house/apartment will reek without proper filtration. AC Infinity T4 is the gold standard for small tents.

This should be required reading for every new grower. Bookmarked.
One addition for Phase 4: if you're growing autoflowers, skip the LST until day 15-18. Before that, the plant is too small and delicate. After day 18, you can start gently bending the main stem.

The cure section is CRITICAL. I'd say 90% of home growers don't cure properly and they're missing out on 50% of the flavor and smoothness. Even 2 weeks of proper curing transforms the smoke quality.
4-8 weeks is ideal. I know it's hard to wait but TRUST THE CURE.

For the lighting section: a good rule of thumb is 30-40 watts per square foot of canopy. So a 2x2 (4 sq ft) needs 120-160W, a 3x3 needs 270-360W, and a 4x4 needs 480-640W.
Don't cheap out on light — it's the #1 factor for yield and quality. Everything else can be budget.

For soil growers: Fox Farm Ocean Forest is great but it's "hot" (high in nutrients). Don't add nutrients for the first 3-4 weeks — the soil has everything the plant needs. Overfeeding on top of FFOF is the #2 beginner mistake after overwatering.

It's hot because they put in chicken turds the size of your thumb, and half of Humboldt County Forest.
Mother Earth Terracraft or Mother Earth Groundswell is far superior to FF. Mother Earth is what FF was 30 years ago. You should try it.
