Fermented Kelp Meal Drench Changed My Soil Life
Been doing this for two seasons now and the root development alone tells the story. Take a cup of dry kelp meal, mix it into a gallon of dechlorinated water with a tablespoon of unsulfured molasses, let it sit covered for 3-5 days at room temp. You want it bubbling lightly by day two. Strain it, dilute 1 part to 4 parts water, and drench your soil once every two weeks during veg.
The molasses feeds the existing bacterial populations and the fermentation process unlocks the cytokinin compounds in the kelp that bottled products mostly cook out during processing. Your rhizosphere bacteria go to work on that stuff immediately.
I noticed tighter node spacing and thicker stems on my GDP run after adding this, but honestly the real win was at transplant. Pulled the root ball and it was this dense white web. The mycelium had colonized the whole pot wall. That doesn't happen in dead soil no matter what you feed it.
Nothing expensive here. Kelp meal from any garden center, blackstrap molasses, a mason jar. The microbes do the rest.
