Is it worth growing your own cannabis vs buying from dispensary?

I spend about $200/month at the dispensary. Would it be cheaper to just grow my own? What are the startup costs and how much can I expect to yield? I'm in a legal state with a 4 plant limit. Would love to hear from people who made the switch.

Made the switch 2 years ago. I was spending $250/month at the dispo. Now I spend maybe $50 every 3 months on nutrients and seeds. Autoflowers from Royal King Seeds (https://royalkingseeds.us) are perfect for this — I get 3-4oz every 10 weeks from 2 plants in a tiny 2x2 tent. Pays for itself immediately.

Beyond cost savings, the QUALITY difference is massive. Dispensary weed is machine-trimmed, quick-dried, barely cured. Home-grown, hand-trimmed, slow-cured cannabis is a completely different product. You'll never go back.

With a 4-plant limit, if you stagger your grows (start a new seed every 3-4 weeks), you can have a perpetual harvest cycle. Never runs out, always fresh.

I did the math for my setup: **Startup cost:** ~$400 (tent, light, fan, pots, soil, nutrients) **Per harvest:** ~$30 (electricity, nutrients, soil amendments) **Yield per harvest:** 4-8 oz (4 plants) Dispensary equivalent: $800-$2000 **ROI after first harvest.** After that, it's basically $30 per cycle for hundreds of dollars worth of cannabis. Plus — your own home-grown, properly cured bud is WAY better than most dispensary cannabis. Not even close.
